The best time to visit Andaman, decided honestly
The short answer every site gives you — "October to May" — is true and nearly useless, because the right month depends on what you are optimising: weather, price, or crowds. This is the version we give our own guests, with the month-by-month verdicts and the season-wise prices on one page.
The verdict, up front
- Season: October to May. Calm seas, clear water, everything running.
- Our pick: September–October. Settled weather, sane airfares, rooms still available — the best price-to-weather ratio of the year.
- December is lovely and overpriced. Hotels surcharge Dec 15 – Jan 15 and flights run 2–3× — autumn gives near-identical weather for less.
- June–September is the honest bargain. Cheapest, greenest, mostly fine — but plan buffer days, because a few rough-sea days each season do cancel ferries.

What the same trip costs, season by season
The part the "October to May" answer skips: the identical 5N/6D trip can cost nearly double in peak season. Per person, land package, as of July 2026:
| Season | Budget | Standard | Luxury |
|---|---|---|---|
| Peak (Oct – Feb)Dec 15 – Jan 15 carries hotel surcharges; flights run 2–3× | ₹28,000+ | ₹45,000+ | ₹78,000+ |
| Shoulder (Mar – May)Warm afternoons; sea still mostly calm into April | ₹22,000+ | ₹35,000+ | ₹60,000+ |
| Off / monsoon (Jun – Sep)Cheapest window; ferry-disruption risk needs buffer days | ₹16,500+ | ₹28,000+ | ₹45,000+ |
Flights extra — they move by city and how early you book; typical ranges are in the how to reach guide. The full cost anatomy — hotels by island, ferries, what quietly moves the number — is on the trip cost page.
Best time, by the trip you are planning
Honeymoon
November for calm seas without the December surcharge, or February for the clearest water. December is genuinely lovely — just know the same trip costs meaningfully less either side of the Dec 15 – Jan 15 window.
Family
October–November and February–March: calm crossings, moderate crowds, easier hotel choice. If you must travel in the December school break, book 60–90 days out — rooms and flights both go early.
Snorkelling & diving
The calm-sea months — roughly November to April, with February the standout for water clarity. Monsoon months still run dives on fair days, but visibility and boat comfort are a lottery.
Budget
June–September is the cheapest the islands get (₹16,500+ for a budget 5N/6D land package), and September–October is the best price-to-weather ratio on the calendar — our honest pick if you can choose freely.
The timing questions, answered straight
What is the best time to visit Andaman?
October to May is the season — calm seas, clear water, everything running. Within it, our honest pick is September–October: the weather has settled, hotels still have availability, airfares are reasonable, and the December surcharges are two months away. December–February is the classic postcard window and genuinely beautiful, but it is also the most expensive stretch on the calendar.
Which is the cheapest month to visit Andaman?
June to September carries the lowest hotel and package rates — a budget 5N/6D land package starts around ₹16,500 per person in that window, versus ₹28,000+ in peak season. The trade-off is monsoon: sudden thunderstorms, rough-sea spells and the odd cancelled ferry, which is why monsoon itineraries need buffer days built in. For low prices without the weather lottery, September–October is the sweet spot.
Is December a good time — or overrated?
The weather is genuinely lovely: calm seas, 22–28°C, clear water. But December is the most expensive month on the islands — hotels apply peak surcharges from December 15 to January 15 and flights price 2–3× normal. September to November gives you near-identical weather for meaningfully less money. If your dates are fixed to the holidays, book 60–90 days ahead; if they are flexible, shift either side of the surcharge window.
Can I visit Andaman during the monsoon (June–September)?
Yes — with the right expectations. The islands do not sit under weeks of drizzle; they get passing tropical thunderstorms, and in a typical May–August season only five or six days genuinely disrupt ferry crossings. Everything except some water activities keeps running, the islands are at their greenest, and prices are at their lowest. The rule that makes monsoon trips work: buffer days around every ferry, especially before your flight home.
What is the best month for a honeymoon in Andaman?
November or February, honestly. November gives you calm seas and sunset weather before the December price surge; February gives you the clearest water of the year with the New Year crowds gone. December works beautifully too if the budget is not the constraint — the weather is at its best, it just costs the most. Whichever month, the honeymoon itself is built the same way: slow Havelock time, a sea-view room, one candlelight dinner on the sand.
How far ahead should I book?
For December–January: 60–90 days, and the good sea-view rooms honestly go first. For the rest of the season (October–May): 4–6 weeks is usually comfortable for both flights and hotels. For monsoon dates: even 2–3 weeks works — availability is easy, and we will tell you straight if your specific dates look rough before you commit to anything.

How this page stays true
Written by the Tropical Andamans team in Port Blair from the seasons we operate in, as of July 2026. The month verdicts mirror our weather guide and the prices mirror our cost page — both maintained from live operations, re-checked each season. When a month is overpriced or a "peak month" is beatable, we say so; the islands do not need overselling.
