Andaman for senior citizens: a relaxed travel guide
The Andamans suit older travellers better than most people expect: distances are short, the pace is naturally slow, the best sights are seated or gently walked, and the weather from November to February is kind. With the right ferry seats, the right rooms and a schedule that respects rest, guests in their 60s, 70s and beyond do this trip comfortably — we arrange it often. Here's how we build it.

What makes the trip comfortable
Private transport throughout
Private AC cars for every transfer, door to door — no shared autos, no public buses. This single choice removes most of the trip's physical strain.
Premium ferry seats
Premium/royal class on Makruzz or Nautika: AC, reclining seats, less crowd, and staff who assist with boarding.
Ground-floor rooms
We request ground-floor rooms with easy bathroom access; several Havelock resorts are single-level cottages anyway.
Dietary needs handled
Vegetarian, Jain and low-spice menus are widely available — hotels just need to know in advance, and we tell them.
Pick the kind months
November to February is the window: 25–28°C and low humidity. April–May crosses 35°C and is genuinely hard on older travellers.
One or two things a day
Rest time is scheduled, not squeezed in. We also avoid the 6 AM ferries — 8–9 AM departures make mornings humane.
A 5-day senior-friendly itinerary
Rest time scheduled, travel legs short, nothing before 8 AM.

A late-morning arrival, hotel check-in and proper rest. Cellular Jail in the afternoon (the ground floor is the accessible part), then the seated Light & Sound Show in the evening. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 2 — Ross Island & Corbyn's Cove
A short 30-minute boat to Ross Island, where paved, mostly flat walkways loop the colonial ruins and the deer. Back by noon, afternoon rest, and an easy evening stroll at Corbyn's Cove.

Questions senior travellers ask us
Is Andaman suitable for 70+ year old travellers?
Yes, with the right plan — we regularly arrange trips for guests aged 70–80+. The formula: premium ferry seats, ground-floor rooms, private transport, one or two activities a day with rest in between, and all medications carried. Skip the offbeat islands and adventure activities.
Are there hospitals in Andaman?
GB Pant Hospital in Port Blair is a well-equipped multi-speciality hospital with emergency services and ICU. Havelock and Neil have Primary Health Centres for basics — for anything serious, Port Blair is 1.5–2 hours away by ferry, which is worth factoring into the plan.
What is the best time for seniors to visit Andaman?
November to February: a pleasant 25–28°C with low humidity, and December–January the most comfortable of all. Avoid March–May (35°C+ heat) and the June–September monsoon, when rough seas make ferry crossings unpleasant.
Can senior citizens manage the ferries?
Comfortably, in premium/royal class on Makruzz or Nautika — AC, reclining seats, smooth rides and boarding assistance. A seasickness tablet 30 minutes before departure helps; morning crossings on calm seas are the gentlest.
Is an Andaman trip physically demanding?
Not when built for the traveller: accessible beaches, seated activities like the glass-bottom boat and the Light & Sound Show, short distances and scheduled rest. The main tourist circuit needs minimal physical effort — it's the trek-and-dive add-ons that don't belong on a senior itinerary.
How this page stays true
Ported from our long-running senior travel guide and re-checked 7 July 2026. Hotel prices and accessibility details are indicative and re-verified when we plan a specific trip — for senior travellers, we double-check the room, the ferry seats and the day's walking before anything is booked.
Planned around comfort, not a checklist.
Tell us ages, dates and any mobility or dietary needs, and we'll build the trip around them — private car, the right rooms, and a driver who's done this for hundreds of senior guests.
