Yes, passenger ships sail Chennai → Port Blair — and for almost everyone they are the wrong answer. About 60 hours at sea, a few sailings a month on a shifting schedule, tickets roughly ₹3,500–9,000 and limited. The 2-hour flight usually costs only a little more than the better ship berths. Take the ship only if the voyage itself is the point; otherwise fly and spend those two days on a beach instead. How many days are enough for an Andaman trip from Chennai?
Five to six nights is the sweet spot — enough for Port Blair, two unhurried nights on Havelock and a stop on Neil without racing a ferry every morning. Because the Chennai flight is only 2 hours, even a 4-night trip works better from Chennai than from any other metro. Fewer than 3 nights is not worth the airfare.
When should I book an Andaman trip from Chennai?
For October–January travel, book 6–8 weeks ahead — that window is peak season and both flights and the good sea-view rooms sell out first. February–May is calmer and a month ahead is usually fine.
