Andaman in October: the honest picture
October is the month we recommend most, with September. The sea settles early in the month, right after the monsoon rains stop, temperatures sit at 24–30°C, hotels still have rooms, and airfares are ordinary — while December's surcharges are still two months away. You are buying most of peak season's weather without peak season's price or its crowds. The one thing to watch is Diwali: when it falls in October the islands stay fully open, but there is a sudden rush of visitors, so book earlier than you otherwise would.

What's open in October, and what isn't
Ferries — running and dependable
The sea settles at the start of the month, so crossings are routine for most of October rather than only late in it. We still keep a buffer day in Port Blair before your flight home, in October as in every month — a settled sea is not a guaranteed one.
Snorkelling and diving — the water clears
Visibility is the thing October fixes. The monsoon churn drops away early in the month and the water clears. It is not yet the glass of February, but it is a real improvement on the monsoon months, when visibility is the first thing to suffer.
Water sports — back to full
Through the monsoon the water sports run limited; by October they are operating properly again. A rough morning can still close a single boat activity at short notice, and if that happens on one of our trips you are refunded or moved — the practice we hold to year-round.
Barren Island — the exception
Live-aboard and long-range boat trips to Barren stay weather-dependent and are not a safe bet this early in the season. Ask before building a plan around it.

If your trip lands on Diwali week
Diwali moves year to year, and in some years it falls inside October. When it does, two things change: domestic flights and hotels price up for the holiday window, and you should book earlier than you otherwise would. What does not change is that we run. Islands do not close for the festival, and neither does our desk — a guest from a Diwali-week trip put it plainly:

Anyone optimising value against weather
This is the month we recommend most often, alongside September. You get the improving sea and the open season without paying December for it.
Divers and snorkellers
The water clears once the monsoon rains stop, which our ops team puts at the start of the month — so October is usable in the water throughout, not just at the end of it.
Couples who want the beaches quiet
Radhanagar at sunset in October is busy but not shoulder-to-shoulder. The same beach in late December is a different experience.

Nothing closes, but the rush is real and sudden. If your dates sit on Diwali, book well ahead — rooms and the good ferry seats go first.

What is the weather like in Andaman in October?
Warm and steadying. Temperatures sit between about 24°C at night and 30°C by day, the sea holds 27–29°C, and rain is easing — you get passing showers rather than settled monsoon rain, with more clear days as the month progresses. The important change is not temperature, which barely moves all year in the Andamans, but the sea: our ops team puts the settling right at the start of October, once the monsoon rains stop, and that is what makes ferries and snorkelling dependable again.
Does it rain a lot in the Andamans in October?
Less than in the monsoon months, and in a different way. October rain tends to come as passing tropical showers that clear, not as days of drizzle. It is the tail of the monsoon rather than the middle of it. Showers can still close a boat activity for a morning — if that happens on one of our trips, you are refunded or moved to another day, which is how we handle it in any month.
How is the sea in October — can you snorkel and take ferries?
Yes to both. October is when the sea settles after the monsoon — our ops team puts it early in the month, as soon as the rains stop — so ferry crossings are routine and underwater visibility is back. It is not the glass-clear water of February, but the water sports that run limited through the monsoon are operating properly again. We still keep a buffer day in Port Blair before your flight home, because a settled sea is not a guaranteed one.
Is October cheaper than December in the Andamans?
Meaningfully, yes — for close to the same weather. October opens the peak-season rate card, so a 5N/6D land package starts around ₹28,000 per person for budget and ₹45,000 for standard. But October sits outside the December 15 – January 15 hotel surcharge window, and flights are outside the peak band where December–January fares run two to three times normal. That gap, not the weather, is the argument for October.
